Rochelle Johnson's Intro

Hello! My name is Rochelle, I am currently a student at WCC working on my pre-requisites for nursing. This is my first year in college. I am really excited about this quarter I really like my teachers and the homework seems really fun so far. Nursing has always been a major interest of mine, so working toward it is just really exciting for me. The medical environment has always really made me feel really at home, probably because I grew up with my parents working in nursing homes and later my mother moving onto working in a hospital. I always enjoyed going to work with them and visiting the staff and residents/patients.
I volunteer at a local nursing home, whice I adore! The residents and staff are all very fun characters, so it's really a fun experience. I have learned how to interact with dementia patients, understand those who can't talk as clearly, how to deal with conflict, different personalities of people, how to deal with the death of a resident and comforting the families. All over working at the nursing home has really show me what I'm going to face as a nurse.
On top of being a student and a volunteer, I am a single mother of a beautiful three year old girl. We are a very fun little family of two, we love to joke around constantly. My daughter and I enjoy playing outdoors. Every chance we get we are at the beach, hiking in the woods, camping, going out on the boat with my dad, anything outside in the fresh air.

My favorite form of writing would have to be texting. I am usually very busy, so it helps me be able to have a conversation that I can put on pause and come back to later.
When my dad needs me to pick my mom up from work, but I'm in class or at work, he can just text me. Same thing goes for if I need him to pick up my daughter at daycare.
It also is nice to keep my social life going. I am not at all the party girl, and I spend my nights at home. When my daughter is in bed I have to keep everything quiet, so a phone call is usually out of the question, so I flip open the good old cell phone and text away with my friends and family. Thank goodness for unlimited texting!
