Vision of Students Today Summary

The Vision of Students Today video was about how today’s education system is not particularly adhering to the students needs. The class sizes are too high in numbers and thus many teachers don’t even know the students names. It also goes on to emphasize how over scheduled students spend their time now-a-days. Students spend most of their time working, online, on cellular phones, and watching television. The video supports the previous statement by giving examples such as how students use their time throughout the day and how it adds up. Students will usually need about 26.5 hours a day to complete all their errands and school work. Even though they spend thousands of dollars and countless hours in class, they don’t take full advantage of the time they spend in class. One student in the video paid his/her tuition, and never showed up to class. Another example would be how some students take their laptops to class making it look like they are doing homework or class work, when really they could be doing countless things such as surfing the web, or joining online chat rooms, such as Facebook. So in conclusion, this video summarizes key characteristics of students today- mostly how they learn, what they need to learn, their goals, hopes dreams, what their lives will be like, and what kinds of changes they will experience in their lifetime.

This was a great summary for the most part, but it appeared to lack, or only consist of a tiny amount of author(s) personal input; possibly due to time constraints or a misunderstanding of the criterion that needed to be met, or not caring; even though I am aware that the post is plainly and clearly entitled as a "Summary." However, if I can recall correctly, the assignment was suppose to include a group response about the video clip as well. Thus I'd categorize this as pretty much, a "list summary," which is typically something that should be avoided during rhetorical interpretation, rumination, anaylzation and disputation, as previously mentioned during class discussion. Had, for instance, the designated task been only to type up a concise review about the aforecited video, then this general outline, with dismally intriguing information about college pupils, which had been extracted from the video, would've sufficed.
ReplyDeleteAn Addendum: Oh, great post by the way. I guess we weren't required to judge other posts and find faults with them, just state a commment in order to continue the conversation, that's all.
ReplyDeleteI think we can all agree..it took awhile to warm up to our groups and get the thoughts on paper (computer) Yes, we didn't have enough class time, although your summary does recap much of the information and I like the personal touch at the end.
ReplyDeleteYou did a god job of summarizing the video as a whole. Your usage of the "They Say, I Say" verbs was pretty evident and well thought out. I would've liked to hear all of your personal stands on the matter, but I understand that time was an issue. Perhaps next time you would think about what each of you would like to add from your own perspective or even experience.
