Ideal for children and their parents, this Barbie doll advertisement shows little girls playing with Barbie dolls in different settings. The girls are very excited and the doll and her accessories are very colorful. In the background there is cheerful music and a tune including lyrics, "be who you want to be." Clearly, this is attractive to children, especially little girls because it looks like so much fun. The bright colors attract children because the eye enjoys looking at nice colors. Despite those two factor, the music plays a big role in the actual sales of the doll.
The music allows for children to develop some excitement. With the excitement of the doll both seen and heard, one cannot miss the lyrics. Parents raise their children to believe they can be anything they want to be. Barbie is anything and everything. She is a doctor and she is a mother. According to the advertisement Barbie works at Sea World too. Obviously, an adult knows it is impossible for any person to be everything at one time successfully. Children do not. They are in the mind set that they can be an astronaut and a dentist if they want to be. Barbie keeps that thought alive. The music itself repeats, "be who you want to be". This means, while selling the doll the company is also selling the idea that there are no limits and in a sense sells hope. Parents want their children to have hope for they have hope for them in their lives. Barbie and hope are sold together in a two in one package.
