Lynx 24-7 commercial

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=617286991

This commercial, which ran in the UK, starts off with two attractive, young people waking up together in bed with the song Somewhere Over The Rainbow playing in the background. They nod to each other and get out of bed, finding their respective underwear and putting them on. They then proceed to go all over the town picking up various articles of clothing and putting them on. The trail of clothes eventually leads them to a grocery store where they find their last missing articles of clothing next to two shopping carts. The words “because you never know when, Lynx 24-7 works 24 hours a day”. The advertisement makes it seem like the couple was together, or at least knew other before spending the night together in bed, until the end when they return to their own, individual shopping carts, stopped right next to each other.

This commercial is very obviously selling sex. They way this commercial is set up suggests that the two people didn’t know each other, saw each other in the grocery store, she smelt his body spray and was instantly attracted to him, and then they spent the night together in bed. The advertisers want men to think that if they wear this body spray, they will be able to get girls whenever, where ever. The song playing is talking about dreams coming true, and the softness of the song playing in the background makes casual sex seem nonchalant, innocent, acceptable and normal.
