Reading Response 3 Analyzing Videos

For our 3rd reading response, I decided to try and analyze a foreign beer commercial, I was actually sent this clip awhile back and I thought it was very humorous, and now I get to try to say why I think its humorous. The product of the commercial is known as "Brahma Beer," I guess its really popular in Brazil, and now has been exporting it all around the world. There wasn't actually a title for this video clip, so it may be "Voo Doo and Beer."

The clip starts out showing a boyfriend and girlfriend being happy and together, it progresses into he's at a bar, or nightclub, and she's at her apartment with a picture of him, a voodoo doll, and a lighter. Obviously, something went wrong with their relationship and she's not happy with him. As the night progresses, he's enjoying himself, while she's burning voodoo doll, which makes ex boyfriend become hot and bothered, sweating extensively, burning up, and shows him gasping for air. He decides he's to hot, and sweaty, so he goes to the bar and orders a Brahma beer, which I guess is cold, crisp, thirst quenching- typical qualities of a great beer- he slams a pounder of it, drinks really fast, and he gets cooler and sweat goes away. Its saying the beer is very cold and quenches your thirst. As with most alcoholic beverages, beer makes one pee, so the end of this commercial kind've has a twist to it, she thinks she's getting revenge, but in the end, the doll pees on her.

There is kind've a twist in the scenario for this commercial, or cultural narrative. It has to do with boy has girl, boy loses girl, girl gets revenge on boy, and in the end revenge comes from him. When making this commercial, I think they had to have a general knowledge of beer itself, cold, thirst quencher, and restroom visits, and they were also required to study habits and relationships of young people.

In conclusion, typically men are unemotional pieces of garbage, whereas women seem to get alot more emotional about things such as relationships, and this ad goes to show how she tries to get revenge, or just get back at him. When I first was sent this commercial, I was like WOW, thats a great commercial, in the original revenge idea, and also the way this one has a twist ending. I guess businesses will go to any extremes to sell there product, if it works, why not?
