Mary's Sample Ad Analysis

While analyzing this commercial I noticed how pepsi-max is not only advertising a product, but also fueling the cycle of consumerism by portraying mostly people at work. By focusing on workers this commercial reinforces values of industrialism prevalent in the united states, supporting the idea that we should strive to be hard workers despite fatigue or illness. It reveals how we place our identity in our jobs which in turn bolsters the economy, making rich people richer....

    drinking pepsi, staying awake and alert, that caffeine and ginseng will improve your quality of life. The gaps between the mythology and practice are that the use of these products actually makes you more dependent on them and this creates a cycle of need, consumerist behavoir. The opposites present involve falling asleep and waking. Pepsi is promising us that it will help us stay awake and have a better day and have more success. Sleepiness, healthy diet are ignored and not represented favorably. Ginseng is a natural stimulant. This product shows that we like or want natural things, but we are comfortable with conforming to buying products that we're used to. this support brand loyalty. The myth is that pepsi cares about our health and is a healthy product.
