Alexandria's blog on Selfe

Cynthia L. Selfe’s essay “Lest We Think the Revolution is a Revolution” (p 292- 294), is illustrating a debate that has been going on since the time the Internet boom started. This debate is that technology is being accepted into the education system and leading to productive changes, but many Americans are undecided on whether it is a productive alteration. Selfe believes the technology that has the most influence is computers, which have the ability to help connect people all over the world, so that they can communicate. Technology has also made images that reinforce culture, values, and ideology. Selfe implicates that these images are communication devices which often creates our mixed feelings about whether the technology boom is a healthy one.
The most difficult question to answer when relating technology with change is whether we will regret our strong dependence on it in the future. Cynthia L. Selfe states “Like most Americans, however, even though educators have made these adaptations, we remain decidedly undecided about technology and change” (par 3). I believe Selfe is saying that Americans don’t want to analyze this change, because we prefer to stay ignorant of the situation that we created that could have devastating consequences. In my opinion, I believe we are doing a good job right now balancing the negative and positive aspects of technology.
