From the documentary we watched on Monday I have found it to be very true. For starters they did research stating that multi-taskers could not multi-task, not only that but they were the worst at it (the research was done at UCLA). I myself have noticed that people who multi-task (my mother mainly) tend to get jumbled and either focus only on one thing and ignore the rest, or try to move between things so fast that they get lost in the process. Many people, heck many countries are finding out that technology, especially the Internet can cause something like an addiction to people. People spending hours, nights, even whole days just playing games and to those who are not addicted to video games there are the ones who are attached to social interaction/communication. People all around the world have heard about World of Warcraft, to some it is just a part of their everyday life; to others it is their life, if not WoW then to something else that is similar. Even if these players are far away they can talk to each other as if they are very close.
Part 2
The many advances in technology have improved many peoples lives, however to me technology has isolated me even more. I have found that many people have talked to each other online, while I only learned about things like myspace and facebook, in 7th grade, not only that but I have also just learned about games like “WoW” two years later (just shows you how far I am behind). I’ve seen many people texting, switching between blogs and working on how to get to the next level with their friends, and besides feeling behind, it feels more like abandonment. While technology has brought people closer together it has also spread them farther out having people stay in doors in order to see the other side of the world. I remember a quote that someone used in the movie and I found it to be accurate to what is happening (and just cool) and that is “we are consumed by that which nurtures us” doth quote Shakespeare. The Internet designed to make all the information from around the world more accessible to us and instead we have become more accessible to it. Immersing ourselves in people words, becoming a native to a different planet and all the while sitting down, our eyes glued to the bright and flickering screen as the rest of the world around us goes dark and quiet as we become apart of that computer realm where all one needs is just a few zeros and a couple of ones (wired and creepy I know but it dose make a great ending).
