REVOLUTION I YELL!
Cynthia Selfe essay Lest we think the revolution is a revolution, reading from page 294 paragraph 13 to page 301 paragraph 36. Selfe is providing her readers a look at the global village. Selfe uses visual support from marketing ad’s to stage a picture of how these Ads’s actually represent the electronic colony. Selfe pick an ad that show the global village persona “for the world to have a future, we must work together as one tribe”(Virgin) These word are accompany by the picture of a Yanomami tribes man in ritual dress looking up as to say my savior. Virgin commissioner of the ad states “it will donate portion of their profit to assist the Yanomami tribe to establishing a health care program.” If you look deeper into the Ad with Selfe guidance, she points out the electronic colony that the Yanomami is portrayed as a savage, unaware of the power of technology being used to his benefit. He is connected but not literally able to use technology. Selfe continues to use ad to further advise her readers to dig in understand the underlining message and not just accept their face value.
