Social Media/sheila/kelly/chris
In the video social media revolution by Eric Qualman suggests that social media is becoming more of a commodity in todays society and is growing in leaps and bounds. This video emphasizes the ability for information and aspects of social media to reach large multitudes faster than early forms of media. While the video suggests that Radio took 38 years to reach 50 million viewers television 13 years it only took Facebook months to reach 100 milion people.

ReplyDeleteThe new growth and progress in technology demonstrates how big companies i.e. newspapers, radio, and even television are drastically being effected. Twenty four of twenty five large newspaper companies having record declines of circulation reaffirm that media and ways of reaching people are changing in huge proportions. Huge businesses that used to keep people are up to date with current affairs are seeing huge decline in subscriptions and readers, verifies the shift in social media and what seems to be a revolution of our time.
Who thought, just a few years ago, that we would be were we are? The question is: what might be the next big media jump in the communication industry? How can we communicate any faster? It's incomprehensible to me.
ReplyDeleteThe part of the video that was eye opening for me was the part that said if Facebook was a country, it would be the 4th largest country in the world. I didn't think that there were that many people using a social network. I knew there was a lot, not that many.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this video and was blown away by the numbers given. Maybe we don't need to communicate any faster....just with more authenticity? Some of the comments I see people post on Facebook are so phony..are people really falling for that?
